One of the leading factors that hinders female
growth and development are societal beliefs that
have shaped the future of women in a way that
allows little room to be something different.
For instance, in many parts of the world, the girl child
is denied access to education because of the societal
belief that a woman’s primary goal is to get married
and her education will not benefit her family as she
will belong to another family. This has done a lot of
damages to the dreams of many women all over the
world.
Societal belief has caused women more than just
dreams; it has caused some women their lives. And
these beliefs include honor killings, child marriages,
female genital mutilation, etc.
Societal beliefs have discouraged and sometimes
even stopped women from owning properties or
wielding their properties as they wish. It has forced
down roles on women and forced them to conform
to a life they do not want.
Sometimes, we need to break away from some
societal beliefs. We need to understand that at the
end of the day no one gets to live our lives or bear
our pains. We need to cut down the chains holding
us back.
